How Comdity works

  1. BrowseAnyone can browse the listings and search by product, port and delivery term. No account is needed.
  2. Create a company accountSign up with your company email address (free email providers are not accepted). Up to five people of the same company can share one account, each with their own login.
  3. Activate the membershipPosting listings and sending offers need the annual company membership. The price is shown on the Membership page before you pay.
  4. Post a listingPublish a sell offer (on FOB terms, optionally open to CFR or CIF offers) or a buy request (on CFR or CIF terms, optionally open to FOB offers). We email a confirmation link to your company address. After you confirm it we review the listing, and it goes live as soon as it is approved.
  5. Who sees my company name?Nobody, until a negotiation starts. A posting and an offer show only "A verified company" with its country (and your role in the posting). When a company accepts an offer and starts a negotiation, its company name, your name and your email address (no phone number) are sent to the other company; the other company stays hidden until the deal is agreed. So make your offer first; do not look for the company outside Comdity.
  6. Send and answer offersCompanies send offers on a listing. You can accept, counter or decline. A counteroffer changes the price only: the term, port, quantity and delivery stay as offered. When you accept an offer, your company name, your name and your email address (no phone number) are sent to the other company, which contacts you directly by email; then the company that posted the listing marks it Agreed on Comdity and the other company confirms it (the deal is agreed when both agree). Either company can mark it Failed.
  7. Agree and shipAfter an agreement the two companies finalise the contract directly, by email or phone. Comdity is not a party to the trade. If you arrange the sea freight, you can continue to Shipfixing to find a vessel.

Common questions

Which delivery terms can I use?

FOB, CFR and CIF. A sell offer is always on FOB and can also be open to CFR and CIF. A buy request is on CFR or CIF and can also be open to FOB.

Why is my listing not on the marketplace yet?

A new listing goes live only after you open the confirmation link we email to your company address and we have reviewed it (usually within one working day; the status shows Pending approval). The link works for 48 hours; after that the unconfirmed listing is removed.

Is there a limit on listings?

Yes. To keep the marketplace trustworthy, the companies of one email domain share a daily and a monthly limit on new listings. The posting form shows what is left. Editing a listing does not count.

What can I change after posting?

Title, description, quantity (while no offer is open), prices, currency, delivery dates and the broker commission note. The type, product, country of origin, delivery terms and ports cannot be changed: post a new listing instead.

Does Comdity handle the payment between buyer and seller?

No. Buyer and seller agree the contract and the payment directly. Comdity does not hold goods or funds.

How do I pay for the membership?

By card on Stripe's secure page. Comdity does not see or keep your card details. Prices are in US dollars plus any applicable taxes. The membership is renewed manually and never charged automatically.

Why am I asked to wait when I sign in?

After several wrong passwords in a row we ask for a quick check that you are a person (Google reCAPTCHA, invisible), and after five wrong tries sign-in pauses for 15 minutes. Wait, or use Forgot password on the sign-in page to choose a new one.

How do I stop the Comdity news emails?

Use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any news email. Only the news stops. Emails about your own listings, offers, negotiations, payments and account keep coming, because they are part of the service.

How do I add colleagues?

Open Companies, then Members, and invite a colleague with an address on your company domain. A company account includes up to five people.
